Design of Frequency Reconfigurable Antenna using Varactor Diode

In this paper, a frequency reconfigurable microstrip patch antenna is designed with microstrip feeding technique. The reconfigurable antenna is designed with one square patch and four truncated corners in order to tune for different frequencies. Varactor diode is used for switching operation in the proposed antenna. By changing the capacitance of the diode, the antenna can be reconfigured between various frequencies. The proposed antenna has been designed and simulated using Agilent Advanced Design System (ADS) EM simulator. The designed antenna exhibits a continuously tunable band from 1.3 to 1.7 GHz. This proposed antenna gives low return loss at all operating frequencies. The gain achieved by the proposed reconfigurable antenna is 52% more compared to the existing design.
